Burcu Körükcü

Senior Data EngineerBerlin, Germany

I build lakehouse platforms, streaming pipelines, LLM-powered data products and data teams can trust.

5+ years turning raw, complex data into clean, usable data products on Databricks, Spark, Kafka and the cloud. I started out in data science, so I build pipelines with the people who use the data in mind: accurate, well modelled and easy to access.

Where I’vegrown

Four roles, one thread: making data dependable for the people who rely on it.

Parts matching & enrichment on Databricks

Industrial spare-parts data arrives messy: manufacturer names written many different ways, duplicate parts, gaps. I designed and built the end-to-end pipeline that cleans, deduplicates and verifies it with LLMs and web research, and routes what it can’t match to a review app whose decisions flow back into the pipeline.

    MARKT-PILOT

    Mar 2025 – PresentRemote · Berlin, Germany

I own the silver layer of a Databricks medallion lakehouse for industrial spare-parts data, and the LLM pipeline that matches it.

    • Designed and built an end-to-end parts matching and enrichment pipeline on Databricks: LLM-based manufacturer cleaning, deduplication and verification with web research (SerpAPI), plus a manual-review feedback loop app. 72% of industrial spare parts now match automatically, without manual review.
    • Took the Databricks platform from POC to production: built the silver layer with Lakeflow Spark Declarative Pipelines, combining CDC-based incremental ingestion with materialized views for full refreshes, and turned nested MongoDB documents into analytics-ready tables.
    • Redesigned the gold layer as a star schema with new fact and dimension tables, data contracts and automated quality checks for duplicates, null rates and business rules such as valid price and delivery-time ranges.
    • Built and maintained ETL and orchestration workflows with Dagster on Kubernetes, Airbyte and Apache Spark on AWS (S3, EC2, IAM, ECR), with alerting to Microsoft Teams, then migrated them to Databricks.
    • Implemented Infrastructure-as-Code with Databricks Asset Bundles and Terraform, CI/CD on Azure DevOps, and Unity Catalog access control and lineage for secure data sharing across engineering, analytics and BI.
    • Worked with data scientists, product managers and business stakeholders to turn requirements into reusable data products for internal analytics and executive dashboards.

  2. Big Data Engineer

    Bentego · Consultant for Vodafone

    Oct 2023 – Feb 2025Istanbul, Turkey

Real-time streaming and batch pipelines for Vodafone, on a Kafka backbone ingesting roughly 5–10 TB of raw events a day.

    • Developed Spark streaming jobs in PySpark that consume CDC streams from Kafka topics and transform events for real-time analytics.
    • Built production batch ETL and streaming pipelines as Apache Airflow DAGs written from scratch, shipped through CI/CD with Bitbucket and Jenkins for version-controlled deployments, with alerting to the operations team.
    • Led the migration of Kafka streaming flows between servers, tuning performance so continuous data processing ran without interruption.
    • Implemented data transformation logic in PySpark and SQL to integrate MongoDB and other source systems for real-time analytics use cases.
    • Built observability tooling with Python, Airflow and Apache Superset dashboards for data flow and cluster health, and debugged production issues across Kafka, Spark and Apache Phoenix.
